A former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim was arraigned on Wednesday before an Abuja High Court sitting at Maitama, for alleged false information.

In the charge,  Police, alleged that Ohakim who was Governor of Imo state from 2007 to 2011, lied that  one Ms. Chinyere Amuchienwa threatened him with a gun.

According to the police, Ohakim also made a false claim that he had a plot of land for sale in Lagos State.

The former governor, the charge further read, used the name of Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, as the owner of the purported land situated at Ikeja, Lagos state.

He pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him.

Consequently, his lawyer, Ken Njemanze, SAN, urged the court to grant him bail, pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The prosecutor, Mr. Stanley Nwodo, opposed the bail on ground that the accused could interfere with the witnesses. He was however overruled by Justice Bature who granted the accused bail in the sum of N10million with one surety in like sum. The judge also ordered that the surety must be a reputable person in the society with a verifiable address within the Federal Capital Territory.

In granting Ohakim bail, Justice Bature warned him not to interfere with any of the prosecution or the court  witnesses, else the court will revoke his bail. The case has been adjourned till January, 25, 2021.
