Shoprite workers, under the aegis of National Union of Shop and Distributive Employees (NUSDE), have shut all branches of the company across the country.

The workers, who are protesting poor renumeration, ill treatment among others have vowed that the company would remain shut until management meets their demands.

All Shoprite stores aross the country had been shut down nationwide because the negotiation between the union and the management had been deadlocked, a source told ARMADANEWS.
At Owerri branch, customers who came to shop for Easter on Friday, were disappointed as they met the store shut.

Chairman, NUSDE, Mr. Williams Peter,  told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan that the union was using the Easter period to press home its demands since dialogue had failed.

Meanwhile, the management of the company has described the industrial action embarked upon by the workers as ‘unlawful’.

In a memo issued by its Divisional Human Resources Manager, Adeola Kagho, the company said that appropriate action would be taken against the striking workers, adding,  this might include their summary dismissal, should they fail to return to work.
