Nigeria’s newly appointed Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, resumed duty on Wednesday, following his decoration by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, with a firm promise to restore the primacy of the Nigeria police.
Baba, a Deputy Inspector General of Police, was until his appointment on Tuesday, the DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).
He was promoted AIG in 2016 and served as AIG in charge of Zone 5 Benin, Zone 4 Makurdi and Zone 7, Abuja.
The new police chief was previously the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Delta Police Commands.
His appointment was approved on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari, after which, he was decorated on Wednesday by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Born on March 1, 1963 in Yobe State, the Ag IGP bagged a Master’s Degree in public administration from the University of Maiduguri, Borno state in 1997 and a Bachelor of Arts from the Bayero Usman University, Kano in 1985.
