Former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has put the value  of jewellery forfeited by the former Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke at N14.4 billion.

The anti-graft agency also stated that the estimated value of houses seized and forfeited from Diezani was $80 million.

Diezani, who served as oil minister during the regime of President Goodluck Jonathan, has sundry cases pending in Nigeria courts that pertain to corruption, money laundering and abuse of office.

She fled the country shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari was declared winner of the 2015 Presidential election and efforts to extradite her to face trial in Nigeria has not yielded results.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the  EFCC chairman disclosed the value of the assets, before the House of Representatives committee on Friday.

He said that the assets are currently in EFCC’s custody and have not been sold.

Bawa said: “The jewelry forfeited from the former minister has been valued by relevant government agencies and the estimated value of the jewellery is 14.4 billion naira.”

The House of Representatives committee is assessing the status of all recovered moveable and immovable assets from 2002-2020 by agencies of government.
