Governors of the South East and their counterparts from the South  South met yesterday, July 9 in Enugu, the Enugu State capital to look at issues of common interest to both regions.

The meeting which had virtually all the 11 governors in attendance was said to have discussed the ongoing issue of restructuring of the country as well as that of security matters threatening the peace of both regions.

At the end of their deliberations, the governors rose and supported the restructuring of the country in line with popular opinion.

There has been calls for both regions to have regular meetings to articulate their common but beneficial interest but the different political interests of the governors have not made that possible.

In fact, during the return of democracy in 1999 such meetings like the Sounthern Governors Forum were regularly held by the then governors to look at matters that not only affect their region but the country at large.

In attendance at yesterday’s meeting were Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Willie Obiano of Anambra, Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia among others.
