The Government of Imo State has closed down all illegal motor parks in Owerri Capital City with immediate effect.
The Commissioner for Transport, Barr. Rex Anunobi stated this on Monday when he alongside the General Manager, Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA), Engr. Francis Chukwu and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Ogunsanya Bimbola, paid an unscheduled visit to Government House Roundabout, Warehouse Roundabout Assumpta and Control Post Roundabout
Anunobi explained that the closure of all illegal parks in the capital city has become imperative considering the need to ensure total sanity that conforms with the urban and urbanization programme of the 3R administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The Public Relations Officer in the
Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Njideka Nnodimele said in a release that the Commissioner further directed all motorists loading at Government House/Okigwe road to relocate to a location at Amawire Orji, while those operating at Warehouse/Orlu road relocate to a location at Egbeada market.
According to the Commissioner, those operating at Assumpta/Control Post are to relocate to Portharcourt road by Hospital Junction and Arugo Park.
Anunobi who reiterated the vision of Gov. Uzodimma to restore sanity in the transportation sector, has directed the Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Samuel Udeh, to ensure that motorists operating in those illegal parks comply with government’s directive without delay.
