Police Hunt Killers of Traditional Ruler, Three Others in Ogun

A manhunt is underway to apprehend those responsible for the gruesome killing of a traditional ruler, Oba Ayinde Odetola in Ogun State, Nigeria.

Oba Odetola, the Alagodo of Agodo in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, was killed not long after his brother was also gruesomely murdered by unidentified hoodlums.

 Three other persons said to be the traditional ruler’s friends were also killed by the assailants and their bodies set ablaze.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who said the traditional ruler and the three others were killed at about 11am on Monday, January 24, 2022.

Sources said the victims were returning from an outing when they were attacked and killed by yet-to- identified hoodlums.

The Ogun State police Spokesman said that the whole town was deserted as of the time the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, and the Special Security Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Olusola Subair, visited the town for an on-the-spot assessment.

Although the Ogun state police commissioner has directed the Homicide Unit of the state Criminal Investigation Department to commence an investigation into the matter, the police high command was said to have directed the Force Criminal Investigation Department to take over the investigation and to ensure those behind the dastardly act are arrested and brought to book.

The police, sources said will interrogate all those involved in the chieftaincy tussle with the deceased, an indigene of Ake section of Egba land.
