Buhari Inaugurates BUA Group’s Three Million Metric Tonnes Cement Plant

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, in Sokoto, inaugurated BUA Group’s three million metric tonnes per annum cement plant and 48 Megawatts power plant.

The President, shortly after the commissioning of the line 4 plant, embarked on a tour of the plant, accompanied by the Chairman of the company, AbdulSamad Rabi’u, the host Governor Aminu Tambuwal, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’adu Abubakar; the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Buhari in his speech, applauded the management of the company for believing in Nigeria, pointing out that the cement company is largest employer of labour in the northwest region of the country.

Chairman of the company, Alhaji Rabi’u, who recently emerged the fifth richest man in Africa, according to Forbes Magazine, appreciated the President for his presence at the event.

He disclosed that 95% of the materials used for production in the company are locally sourced.

“We are combining line 4, line 5 is under construction and would be ready in the first quarter of 2023.

According to him, the additional 3million metric tonnnes plants when completed in 2023, will raise the company’s production to 17 million metric tonnes.

 “We have continued our expansion to meet the cement demand in Nigeria with focus on export. We have Commissioned 4 plants in the last four years. Two  in Edo and two in Sokoto, bringing our current output to 13mmt”, he.said.
The BUA chair noted that other region in Nigeria will benefit from the project, which he said is the largest employer of labour in the region.
