The National Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Sheikh Abdulaziz Yusuf, was on Thursday, November 17 reportedly kidnapped with his driver near Kaduna while on transit.
JNI spokesman, Sani Mudi, who confirmed the incident on in Jos, said the last they heard from the victim was on Wednesday, November 16 evening about 6pm when Yusuf said on phone that he was near Kaduna.
Mudi said the victim was to join Sheikh Khalid Aliyu in Jos to travel to Sokoto on Thursday morning on a condolence visit to the family of late Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki who died on Monday and was buried on Tuesday.
Reasons for Yusuf’s kidnap could not immediately be ascertained but feelers said it could be for economic reasons as it was claimed that the kidnappers had made contact with his relatives and making a demand running into millions of naira.
The police in Sokoto are already aware of the development and were said to be monitoring the incident closely when Armadanews contacted them.
