Various groups recently bought advert spaces in the national dailies to canvas for the CBN Governor to contest the presidential election, insisting “he is the most qualified person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.”
Banners of Emefiele as a presidential candidate have flooded parts of the country, despite that he has not formally declared interest to run for the office of the president of Nigeria.
But Emefiele said his priority for now is to tackle Nigeria’s macroeconomic problems and achieve robust financial system.
“My focus at this time is a robust monetary policy and fighting inflation which is now a global problem; building a strong financial system in an increasingly uncertain global economy,” the CBN Governor said in a series of tweets on Monday.
Using the hashtag #NoDistractionsPlease, Emfiele stressed that he was focused on “Development finance and supporting farmers & manufacturers in our self sufficiency and import substitution drive; raising N15 trillion for InfraCo infrastructure financing.
“Building a world class International Financial Center in Lagos; as we support the Muhammadu Buhari Administration to finish strong.”
