President Muhammadu Buhari, some governors of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Party’s National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun have met at the Abuja House in London, as part of plot to dispel recent rumours regarding the health of the president.
The meeting brought some relieve as most commentators expressed their joy that Buhari’s health was not what it was beeing painted.
Recent comments from some opposition party members, including Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose claim that Buhari was on life support, brain dead and not likey to return to office soon and alive.
The president’s wife, Aisha who visited Biuhari recently warned those close to him, and thinking his husband would not return to office to get ready to pack their things and leave Aso Rock.
The APC leadership and their governors have also frowned at the hate speeches around the president’s ailing health and insisted that Buhari was doing well nonetheless, hence there was no need for the rumours over his health and person.
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo who visited Buhari a fortnight ago also came back with the impression that Buhari was doing very well and will soon return to Nigeria.
Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha who led other governors like Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa, and Transportation Minister, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi said there is no cause for alarm over Buhari’s health.
“By our visit to London today (Sunday, July 23), the merchants of lies have been put out of business and Nigerians will not buy the garbage they have been selling. All those who look up to fake news can find better use of their time,” Femi Adesina, Presidential spokesman quoted Okorocha to have said after the meeting.
Adesina said Okorocha recalled that Buhari was very cheerful and full of humour as usual, and was delighted seeing the delegation whom he also shared his experiences with the things happening in the courtry even in his absence.
Although Buhari and the delegation were seen around a dinning table, the president only watched his visitors eat.
Reactions have been trailing the visit. When Adesina was asked why Buhari chose to meet privately with select members of the APc and governors instead of addressing Nigerians he said “it is a matter of choice.”
