Justice Rahmon Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja on Tuesday convicted and sentenced a 57-year-old medical doctor, Dr Olufemi Olaleye, to double life imprisonment for defiling his wife’s 15 year -old niece.

The trial judge, Justice Oshodi found Olaleye, the founder of Optical Cancer Care Foundation, guilty of the offence of defilement and sexual penetration of a minor, and held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt by providing evidence before the court that supported the victim’s testimonies.

The state had arraigned the convict before the court over allegations of unlawful sexual intercourse and sexually assaulting the 15-year-old-minor by penetrating her mouth with his penis.

The Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, Dr Babajide Martins told the court that Olaleye committed the offence at No 17, Layi Ogunbambi Close, Maryland, Lagos State.

The alleged offences contravened Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Earlier, Justice Oshodi had dismissed a  no-case-submission application by the defendant for lacking merit and asked him to enter his defence.

Justice Oshodi, on November 20, granted Olaleye bail in the sum of N50 million with two sureties.

During the trial, the prosecution called various witnesses, including the defendant’s wife, who initially reported the case to the Lagos State Police Command.

Others witnesses who testified in the matter were an anonymous victim; a specialist in child forensics Bisi Ajayi-Kayode; Police officer Abe Leonard; a Police Inspector, Esther Igbineweka and a medical examiner, Akinbunmi Oyebimpe.

Testifying before the court, Aderemi Olaleye, the wife of the medical doctor, told the court that her husband had been sexually assaulting her niece while she was living with them.

She also told the court that the defendant exposed the victim to pornography and engaged her in oral sex, ejaculating in her mouth.

Mrs Olaleye also testified that her niece had confided in a relative and their driver, and narrated how the doctor had been involved in sexual activities with her and had also threatened to harm her if she disclosed his sexual activities with her to anyone.

Mrs Olaleye testifying on oath said: “My lord, on November 27, 2021, my second cousin told my aunty who is my mother’s sister that since March 2020, Femi (the doctor) has been sexually abusing her and introduced her to pornography. From pornography, he graduated to oral sex with her, that he did this in different places in the home where there were no cameras.”
