Dangote Industries Ltd., has reiterated its commitment to environmental sustainability by prioritising use of natural and renewable resources.
The Group Managing Director, Dangote Cement Plc, Mr Arvind Pathak, said this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos from the company’s events to commemorate the 2023 sustainability week.
Pathak noted that the company’s sustainability week was a yearly tradition to positively impact its host communities, through employee volunteering, across its Nigerian and Pan African plants, as well as all Dangote business units.
According to Pathak, the company, as a leading business organisation, was educating the Small and Medium Enterprises on ways of sustainable production and consumption to drive a more conducive society and spur economic development.
He explained that the company in 2017 commenced its journey to sustainability with the adoption of seven Sustainability pillars; cultural, economic, operational, social, environmental, financial and institutional, across every aspect of business operations.
Furthermore, he noted that since its inauguration, employee volunteers have increased by 73 percent, “a testament to our vibrant Sustainability culture.”
Pathak also commended the Lagos State Government for its commitment to good governance, demonstrated by the various environmental initiatives embarked upon by the state’s environment and water resources ministry.
“I urge all stakeholders present to partake in the various educational sessions and activities, patronise the exhibitors and network with other sustainability enthusiasts.
“At the fair, members of our host communities, visitors as well as employees must learn to prioritise the use of natural and renewable resources.
“It is also important to transfer the knowledge gained back to your various organisations and homes for implementation,” he said.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, urged the public to be more disciplined in waste disposal.
Represented by the Deputy Director, Climate Change and Environmental Planning, Mr Bankole Michael, Wahab submitted that waste must be properly disposed of to avoid environmental and health hazards.
