Fearing that the recent threat by President Muhammadu Buhari to deal with hate speech merchants in the country may catch up with them, the coalition of Northern youth groups that recently asked Igbos living in the North to quit the place has temporarily withdrawn the notice.
The groups, under the banner of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, issued the quit notice in June, telling Igbos to leave before October 1.
The group had claimed that their demand was in response to secessionist stance of some pro-Biafran groups, like Nnamdi Kanu’s Independent People Of Biafra (IPOB).
The quit notice was condemned by most Nigerians including the federal government, several state governments and traditional rulers, some of them from even the north.
But on Thursday, August 24 the groups announced a suspension of the quit notice at a press briefing at the Transcorp hotel in Abuja.
