Fire has gutted the Dan-Agundi Transmission Station in Kano on Sunday, affecting several parts of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) facility.

The Dan-Agundi Transmission station, a crucial power supply chain for Kano City, was spotted engulfed in smoke.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire outbreak remains unknown, as residents were anticipating the arrival of firefighters to put out the fire.

According to authorities, the fire damaged high-capacity transformers, and emergency responders have not yet arrived.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reports that one of its critical infrastructures, the Shiroro-Katampe 330kV transmission line, has been vandalized, making the fifth such incident within February and March.

The development is coming at the same time vandals destroyed the Shiroro-Katampe 330kV transmission line in Abuja, throwing some parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) into darkness.

“During the fault tracing process, vigilante team leaders in the vicinity notified TCN linesmen of vandalism along the Shiroro-Katampe transmission line. TCN personnel confirmed the vandalisation of the 330kv Shiroro-Katampe transmission line 1, from towers 244 to 245, and the conductors were stolen,” ” the TCN said.

“TCN is currently mobilizing for conductor replacement, pending completion of security operations at the site. Nevertheless, the second line remains fully operational, in conjunction with the Gwagwalada 330kV line serving the Kukwaba-Apo axis.

TCN is working hard to minimise the adverse effect of these acts of sabotage on the bulk power supply to Abuja and environs”.
