The All Progressives Congress, APC, has conducted primary elections for the upcoming local government polls scheduled for September 21st. Party officials and electoral authorities have declared the process free, fair, and peaceful.
APC State Chairman MacDonald Ebere spoke to reporters late Tuesday:
“As I’m talking to you, we are just coming in. We are waiting for the results. The results are trickling in one after the other… Everything has been smooth and we are happy except that we are tired but we’ll continue to be there till the end of the exercise.”
Ebere noted the presence of security forces and electoral officials throughout the 305 wards and 27 local governments where voting took place.
The APC National Vice-Chairman for the South East, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiobu, also observed the primaries:
“We are here in Imo State to observe the primary of the council election of APC, our party, and I can tell you that we witnessed a very credible free and fair primary in all the wards in the states.”
Chief Charles Ohiri, a commissioner with the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, confirmed the smooth conduct of the primaries:
“It was a free and fair election. We have been so busy since morning and afternoon monitoring the election… all the information we got that everything was going fine and everything went on fine.”
The APC is expected to announce the results of the primaries today (Wednesday). Successful candidates will represent the party in the local government elections on September 21st.
