Reverend Father Cyriacus Onunkwo, the Catholic priest who was kidnapped and murdered recently by some kidnappers, has been buried.
He was buried on Monday, September 25 amid tears from family members and well wishers in Imo State and beyond.
Before he was buried, a requiem mass was held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Orlu.
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha; his Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere; the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike; Director of Department of State Services, Denga Abdullahi and a large number of Catholic priests including reverend sisters, were among those who attended his burial service.
Father Onunkwo was kidnapped from his vehicle in Orlu town in Orlu Local Government Area on September 1 while he was travelling home to arrange for his father’s funeral.
Investigation led to the discovery of his corpse in a bush in Omuma Village after he reportedly suffocated to death in the car booth of his kidnappers.
Some suspects have been arrested, including a former police personnel in connection with the kidnap and murder of the clergy.
