The chicken is gradually coming home to roost as some of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s perceived allies have started dumping him. The scale is fast dropping off their eyes as 2019 election draws closer.
The latest is the former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Benjamin Uwajumogu, now a senator representing Okigwe zone on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Uwajumogu in a recent interview with a national newspaper said he was not aware Okorocha was plotting to have his son in-law, Uche Nwosu succeed him, neither was he aware that the state had dumped the popular Imo Charter of Equity which the state has been using to share political offices since 1999.
Uwajumogu said in the spirit of fairness, Okigwe zone where he comes from ought to be given the opportunity to complete their tenure of eight years which former governor Ikedi Ohakim started before Okorocha sacked him in 2011.
“I’m aware that there is what is called ‘Imo Charter of Equity,” Uwajumogu said.
Following the development, Okorocha is said to have started isolating the senator.
A source in Government House sasid Okorocha is thinking that Uwajumogu may have started allying with his political detractors from Okigwe to change his plans.
Okorocha has been speaking against the Imo Charter of Equity since he started nursing the ambition of foisting his stooge in-law on Imo. Most of the APC chieftains in Imo like Ifeanyi Araraume and Uche Onyeagocha have since parted ways with Okorocha over the zoning arrangement.
Our source said Okorocha was so shocked after reading what Uwajumogu said in the said interview.
The governor was said to have recollected the efforts he made to ensure that Uwajumogu won the Senatorial seat for Okigwe.
