President Muhammadu Buhari departed Abuja on Tuesday for Abidjan ahead of the 5th EU-AU Summit.

Buhari was accompanied on the trip by former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and two other governors – Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom and Muhammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi.

This is the first time Buhari was travelling with Tinubu on a trip outside the country since he became president.

Sources said it was not just an ordinary travel between the duo as Buhari may have planned to use the trip to hold critical meeting with Tinubu over certain things happening in the APC.

A chieftain of the party and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar recently resigned from the APC in what many have said will affect the fortune of the party.

Recently, Tinubu also said that Buhari should not expect an automatic ticket to contest again in 2019. That comment is said to be seriously reviewed by the presidency.

Those reading developments within the ruling party are of the view that the president’s trip with Tinubu in his company could not just be any other trip as the duo may have taken their personal political interest to Abidjan where they will have time to discuss sincerely.

Tinubu is believed to be interested in running for the highest office in the country, but keeping all his plans to his chest.
