Church Building Collapse: Oyegun Writes Akwa-Ibom Governor, Offer Condolences

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  John Odigie-Oyegun has written the Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel conveying the condolences of the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) over Saturday, December 10  Church building collapse in the State which led to the loss of several lives and injuries.

About 30 persons reportedly lost their lives during the incident with some officials of the Akwa Ibom State government sustaining injuries in the accident.

The governor himself survived by whiskers. The pastor of the church who was due for consecration as bishop, Akan Weeks also sustained injuries and is still being hospitalized among others.

Odigie-Oyegun in the letter he personally signed, said in spite of the tragic loss of lives, there was still need for thanksgiving as the situation could have been much worse as many lives, including that of the Governor, were rescued from the wreckage of the Worship Centre.

The APC National Chairman prayed for the lost lives and wished the injured quick recovery.

The letter read: “On behalf of the myself and members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), let me convey our deep sadness and sympathies to you and the people of Akwa-Ibom State in respect of the unfortunate collapse of the Reigners Bible Worship Centre, Uyo on Saturday 10th December, 2016 that resulted in the loss of several lives and injury to many.

“Inspite of the tragic loss of lives, there is still need for thanksgiving that despite the extensive damage as revealed by press photographs, the situation could have been much worse as many lives, including that of Your Excellency, the Governor, were rescued from the wreckage of the Worship Centre.

“May the souls of those who lost their lives rest in peace while wishing the injured quick recovery.

“Once more please accept the deep sympathies of our Party and be assured that our prayers and thoughts remain with you, the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.”
