The Anambra Central rerun election which held on Saturday was peaceful through and through but not many people turned up for the election.
But in all the seven local government areas that make up the Anambra Central district, the election was conducted in peaceful manner as was affirmed by ad-hoc officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) posted to the places.
The highest turn out of voters was observed at the local government area of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Victor Umeh.
Deputy governor of Anambra State, Nkem Okeke lauded the exercise, describing Umeh as the senator in the waiting because of his popularity in APGA, Anambra Central District and Anambra State in general.
Umeh who voted in his ward at Aguluezigbo lauded the INEC for conducting the election in line with democratic ethos despite the plot by enemies of democracy to truncate the rerun for selfish interest.
On his part, the APGA National Chairma, Victor Oye also said that INEC has scored above average with the peaceful manner the Anambra Central District rerun poll was conducted on Saturday.
Some observers warned the electorate against not taking seriously elections that are neither the presidential nor the governorship as elections into the federal, state and local government areas are deemed the most critical in societies where they appreciate the workings of democracy and its impact in the communities.
