There has been another round of fresh reprisal attacks between Fulani herdsmen and Bachama indigenes following the latest ambush attack on Kikon Village by suspected Fulani herdsmen at the early hours of Sunday in Numan local government of Adamawa state.

The attack is reported to have claimed three lives while properties and houses were destroyed completely.

It was also reported that the attackers struck in Kikon Village, shooting sporadically while most villagers were asleep.

The sporadic shooting in the village threw every body and the entire community into a state of pandemonium forcing all to run into nearby bushes for safety.

Irked by the development, the Bachama militia mobilised their youths on Sunday afternoon and launched counter attacks on Dowayan-Waja and Lure villages burning everything in sight.

Confirming the attacks to the media, Chairman of Numan Local Government, Mr Arnold Jibila, said the number of deaths could not be ascertained as at the time of filing in this report.

But another source who pleaded anonymity said that many of the villagers have taken refuge in the nearby bushes explaining that the herdsmen stormed the village with more than 20 motorcycles while others came on foot to launch the surprise attack while the villagers were asleep.

The source added that more than three persons have been confirmed dead while a number of those wounded have been evacuated to the Numan General Hospital for medical attention.

“It could be recalled that after the first reprisal attack on the Bachama people where eight villages were razed down with over 60 villagers killed, they attacked some Fulanis resident in Kikon sometimes back and this may not be unconnected with the Sunday’s attack,” the source stated.

Speaking on the attacks in Numan, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, S.P. Othman Abubakar, said from the Police Area Commander in charge of the area, has confirmed that two male and two female from the village were killed.

Abubakar also stated that few villagers were injured in the attacks and were taken to Numan General Hospital for treatment, noting that many houses and properties were destroyed in Kikon and Dowayan-Waja villages.

He maintained that two units of anti-riot mobile police has since been redeployed to ensure normalcy in the area pledging that the assailants will be fish out and brought to book.
