The Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) Mr Chiedu Ugbo said the company has  begun  the construction of  330/132/3kv, 2x150MVA and  2x60MVA transmission sub-station in Lafia, Nasarawa state.

Ugbo on Tuesday said the project was valued at 18 million dollars adding that it would help to  improve supply of electricity to consumers.

The project is one of numerous National Integrated Power transmission Projects (NIPP) being built to help improve transmission of electricity to Nigerians.

The project, awarded to Switzeland based AK-AY  ELEKRIC DISTIC KOLL and A&F Collenco Ltd  companies  is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

At the project site at Akurba lafia , Ugbo, said the project became necessary given the low voltage of electricity supply  to Lafia and its environs.

He said over the years, Lafia was supplied electricity from the 33kv distribution line in Akwanga but that the facility had not significantly met the electricity needs of the increasing population  of Lafia.

Ugbo said increasing economic activities in the town had also necessitated improvement in electricity supply to the people.

He said the sub-station would have the capacity to drop electricity load of 300MW when completed and result  in additional electricity distribution to Lafia and other parts of Nasarawa State.

He said the sub-station would also help support electricity supply to FCT when necessary as the territory was being served from Shiroro station.

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo, and the Minister of Power, Mr Babatunde Fashola, as well as Nasarawa State  government for their support.
