The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja is filled to the brim as people thronged the place to witness the return of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The airport environment was agog as many Nigerians had converged at the place since news of Buhari’s return broke.
Buhari left London where he went for medical checks since May 7 for Nigeria. His Eagle 1 Presidential Jet turned down at Abuja by 4. 50pm.
Alightening from the plane Buhari shortly stood for the national anthem to be sung after which he made straight to his official cars without inspecting the Military Guard of Honours mounted for him.
But Information Minister Lai Mohammed insisted Buhari inspected the Guard of Honour before leaving for Aso Rock by merely taking a salute.
Security agencies had a hectic time controlling the number of persons who came to airport to catch a glimpse of Buhari.
” We have come to see baba. We like to see him,” says one man who gave his name as Sani.
One of the policemen attached to the airport said the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris directed that security be beefed up at the airport.
Some ethnic groups also brought their traditional music and were rehearsing within the airport.
Traffic built up on the airport road shortly after Buhari was driven to the Presidential Villa with motorists and commuters joining in singing songs of welcome, mostly in Hausa Language.
Most of those who spoke expressed happiness that Buhari came back alive.
However, there were those who said Buhari is still not strong enough to inspect the Guard of Honour.
No fewere than 1000 Nigerians had gone to th airport to welcome Buhari who walked magestically out of the plane to the waiting hands of his Deputy Yemi Osinbajo and other members of Buhari kitchen cabinet.
Buhari was away from Nigeria for more than 100 days for medical checks in London.
