ACU Admits 953 As VC Advises New Students to Shun Social Vices, Immorality on Campus

     Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Prof. Timothy Abiodun Adebayo has advised newly admitted students of the institution to avoid social vices, including secret cult, drug addiction and immorality on campus, pointing out that the institution frowns against all forms of misconduct capable of tarnishing the image of the university.
    Prof Adebayo who spoke at the 19th Matriculation ceremony of the university for 2023/2024 academic session in which 953 new students were admitted to study in different departments of the 11 Faculties being run by the faith-based university, warned the new students to shun social vices including cultism, drug addiction and immoral conduct, pointing out that “apart from the fact that these are life-damaging tendencies, ACU seriously frowns at any misconduct capable of tarnishing its image”
     The Vice Chancellor who reiterated that the “university promotes the culture of hard work, dedication and spiritual development” stated that on account of these values, four students of ACU made a First Class at Nigeria Law School recently while in Accounting Department, four other students became Chartered Accountants during their BSc programme here.
    In addition, according to Prof. Adebayo, “six of our students from the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies excelled in the Pitch-A-Ton Advertising competition hosted in the University of Ilorin”, stressing that this is the kind of story we want to be hearing about our university.
    He promised that the university would continue to strive to make learning environment more conducive for the students with a view to promoting academic excellence, challenging the new students to work hard towards achieving optimal success in their careers.
   Prof. Adebayo who insisted that the university’s primary mission was to be producing graduates with sound minds and moral principles anchored on Christian tenets, maintained that the university professed in words and indeed the intersection between the intellectual and the spiritual, moral aspects of the individual.
   “As a way of enforcing the moral principles of this university, students are to dress decently and conduct themselves modestly always. This university doesn’t condone indecent dressing as strict actions are taken against erring students”, he said.
    Prof. Adebayo who thanked all the stakeholders including parents and guardians for entrusting the education of their children to the university vowed that the university would not relent in giving the best of training to the students.
     The colourful ceremony which drew parents from far and near climaxed with the students taking the oaths of allegiance and loyalty and obedience to the constituted authorities.
    All principal officers of the university including the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Benjamin Olumuyiwa Popoola, the Registrar, Dr. Jadesola Babatola, the Bursar, Mr. Ayodele John Olusanwo and the Acting Librarian, Dr. Olutoyin Oso were in attendance. The Deans of various Faculties as well as other senior officers of ACU were present.
