It was garland for the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere as the leadership of the African Students Union Parliament ushered him into Pan African Hall of Fame.
The African Students Parliament led by its Speaker, Kewul Abel Sule also honoured the Deputy Governor of Imo State with Pan-African Prize for Excellence in appreciation of his selfless contributions to nation building, astute patriotism, philanthropy, economic and human capital development, positive transformation of the state among all.
The event took place at Lake Malinda, Achi-Mbieri, Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State, the country home of Madumere when the group paid him a solidarity visit.
It will be recalled that in 2016, Madumere emerged as the The Voice Magazine African Personality of the Year.
According to one of the student leaders, Victor Udobong: “the lesson herein is that we are encouraged to do our best to stand for the truth, sacrifice for the truth and live by the truth even if no one seems to appreciate. Somebody somewhere who understand will surely raise a hand someday to speak for you and if that does not happen, be happy for our Father in heaven who looks through our hearts appreciate.”
Among others present were, Lanota Chekibe, Majority Leader, Nkeabasi Victor Udobong, Nigerian Directorate, Even Dominic, Nigerian Secretary II and Solomon Mensha Saint with others who left earlier to catch up with their flights. It was an emotional rendition and invocation of Pan-Africanism and the quest for leadership that will end Africa’s subservience among other continents.
Meanwhile, it has been accolades from cross sections of the people. Imolites, in their comments, described the award as well deserving.
For Frank Amakwe, a United States based professional, Madumere represents the leadership the people yearn.
He added that Madumere’s role in delivering Imo State from an unfortunate fiefdom will for a long time continue to reverberate in the history of the state and the country as large.
“Some persons mistake leadership for philanthropy while some see leadership as occupying of a powerful political office. Leadership means much more. Leadership is the ability and capacity to mobilize a people towards achieving both collective and personal goals. It takes a lot of sacrifices. Some will follow you money and once it’s not there, off they go. Most importantly, integrity is one ingredient that is a sine-qua-non to leadership. This is what Madumere represents. No amount of money or gift can influence Madumere against his conscience. He deserves all the honour and accolades,”he stated.
