Ai-jen Poo Joins Ford Foundation Board of Trustees

Ai-jen Poo, a celebrated labour rights advocvate has joined the Board of Trustees of the Ford Foundation.

President of Ford Foundation, Darren Walker said on Monday, June 19 he was thrilled to have Ai-jen on the team of Ford Foundation in a statement he signed.

Walker wrote of her: “I’m thrilled to announce and welcome our new board member, distinguished labour rights advocate Ai-jen Poo.”

Walker continued: “Ai-jen is the director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and co-director of Caring Across Generations. Her early start as a community organiser led her to create Domestic Workers United in 2000, which played a critical role in New York state passing the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights in 2010, the first law in the country to guarantee basic labor protections such as overtime pay, paid leave, and legal protections from harassment and discrimination. She has also been named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World and one of Newsweek’s 150 Fearless Women.

“In Ai-jen we have gained an extraordinary leader and voice for large communities of people whose rights are often challenged in this country. Born in Pittsburgh to Taiwanese immigrant parents, her journey as a social justice leader is one of compassion, determination, and resilience. We’re so honored to have a trustee with her deep expertise in advocating for the dignity and rights of all people.”

He said he was pleased welcoming her into the Ford Foundation family.
