Justice Daniel Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on Tuesday, granted bail to the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, in the sum of N300m with two sureties in like sum.

The Speaker was arrested on Thursday at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on corruption allegations.

He was arraigned on Tuesday morning alongside the Director of Finance of the State Assembly, Oladayo Samuel, and the Clerk of the House, Adeyemo Taiwo on 11 counts charges of conspiracy and money laundering to the tune of N2.5billion.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Counsel to the Speaker, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), then asked the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.

The bail request was not objected by the counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Oyedepo, who had submitted he would leave the issue of bail at the discretion of the court.

Justice Osiagor granted their bail requests as the anti-graft agency did not raise objections.

The judge held that one of the sureties for the Speaker must not be less than a level 16 officer in the Civil Service while the other must possess landed property within the courts jurisdiction.

Justice Osiagor also granted the second and third defendants bail in the sum of N100m with two sureties also in like sum.

The judge held that one of their sureties must not be less than a level 14 Officer in the Civil Service. The other must also possess landed property within the courts jurisdiction.

All the sureties are to possess three-year tax clearance and swear to an affidavit of means, while all defendants are to deposit their travel documents with the registrar of the court.

Also, the defendants, pending when they meet all their bail conditions, would be remanded in the custody of the EFCC for a week after which they will be transferred to the Abeokuta Division of the court for further orders on their remand.
