Ahead of the official unveiling of its 2018 awards event  in Kigali, Rwanda, the Africa Film Academy, organizers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), got Rwandans thrilled  with a launch of the Kigali Social Media Conference on May 12, 2018.

The conference which was organized as part of AMAA’s human capital development scheme for young Africans featured lectures from renowned new media strategist, Philip I. Thomas (Comrade Phils) and the Director of new media and strategy for the AMAA, Babagide Fadoju among others.

Participants were drawn from all works of life in the Rwandan Capital, Kigali.  Students, opinion shapers, social media influencers, policy makers, artisans and job seekers filled up the Rwanda Cultural Centre in Kigali sharing views on how to explore the opportunities provided by new media to improve on their businesses, careers, skills, governance and other life endeavors.

The event trended with the hash tag #AmaaSMRwanda with participants sharing tweets on their satisfaction and calling for similar conferences in the future.

The success of the Kigali social media conference breeds a broader view of what to expect in the 2018 award event of the AMAA. Perhaps, AMAA’s recent focus on human capital development across Africa sends a message that the brand intends to offer more than just entertainment to the continent.

The official unveiling for the AMAA 2018 is slated for the 13th of June, 2018 at the Kigali Cultural Centre. The AMAA events have always pulled a spectacle of entertainers and film makers around the globe.

As it is its trend, the 2018 edition of the AMAA should hold a more spectacular show-piece than the previous edition but that can only be known when the unveiling is done.
The 2017 AMAA was held in the city of Lagos, Nigeria and had in attendance prominent political figures and drew a sphere of the highest ranks in the Africa entertainment industry.

The 2017 Awards went to talents and movies across the African continents and the globe with Nigeria and Senegal topping the list of recipients.

This 2018 award event leaves movie lovers wandering what masterpiece the renowned brand holds for its fans this year.
