AMCON unveils Nigeria’s mega debtors

The Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has unveiled the names of individuals and organisations owing over N5trillion to different banks.

 

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, during a meeting with board members and management of AMCON and selected heads of government agencies, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, indicated that the names would be released soon.

 

Muiz Banire, AMCON chairman, at the meeting, said the top 20 debtors owe 67 per cent of the N5 trillion debt.

 

Osinbajo spoke as part of the government renewed effort to ensure the effective recovery of the said loans being outstanding debts.

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and the permanent secretaries of the justice and transport ministries have been urged to recover the debts.

 

The list so far  released by the corporation have the following names, companies, and amount as shown below:
