Apapa Lagos is boiling. Everyone is running for dear life as tanker drivers and the police are fighting over the killing of one of the tanker drivers by the police.
Two banks: Diamond and Sterling were reportedly torched by tanker drivers protesting the killing of one of them and an attempt by policemen to extort money from them.
The real reason for the alleged killing is not certain yet but the suspected policeman who shot the driver and ran into a Sterling bank premises was pursued to the place and eventually led to the setting ablaze of the bank’s branch.
Another account said a Diamond Bank Apapa branch was also torched and looted when a policeman attached to the bank shot a tanker driver for allegedly failing to give him bribe.
It sparked a row and the bank was set ablaze and money looted.
It was an opportunity for street urchins to move into the banks to loot according to eye witnesses.
Police reinforcement had been requested but the whole Apapa has remained charged with 
most people doing business in the area closing shop and leaving.
The urchins destroyed ATM machines of the affected banks to scoop money therefrom.
Cars were being smashed at will while the state Rapid Response Squad (RSS) was doing its best to contain the situation.
