The Court of Appeal on Tuesday affirmed the election of Emeka Ihedioha as the governor of Imo State.

It dismissed appeals against Ihedioha’s victory filed by the Action Alliance (AA) candidate, Uche Nwosu, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ifeanyi Araraume and the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hope Uzodinma.

The appellants argued that Ihedioha did not obtain the constitutionally required one-quarter of the votes cast in at least, two-thirds of the 27 local government areas of the state, as provided under Section 179 of the Constitution.

They, therefore, prayed the court to set aside the decision of the tribunal and declare them winners of the election or order a rerun.

In September  the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal for Imo State, sitting in Abuja, had upheld Ihedioha’s election.
