Last week, the army said the exercise was not targeted at the people of the South East for wrong reasons, particularly, those who may be agitating for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kalu, saying the exercise was aimed at updating the troops in the South East on operational rudiments.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai reiterated same in Owerri when he visited Governor Rochas Okorocha to brief him on  the operation.

Though most well meaning South East persons had kicked against the exercise, particularly as the period the soldiers are going to stay in the area for the operation is long compared to the duration they stayed in others geopolitical zones, the governor welcomed the development and assured  the army of his willingness to support them.
