Babalakin Resigns as UNILAG Pro-Chancellor

Dr. Wale Babalakin, SAN, has resigned his position as the Pro-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG.

His resignation was sequel to an alleged disagreement with the federal government on the visitation panel sent to the university.

Babalakin said that there “were too many vested interests in UNILAG matter”, which make an approach to the issues non-objective.

The senior lawyer said he must stand by his principles since the federal government viewed the actions he took might not be right.

The federal government, in August, asked the Babalakin-led Governing Council of the UNILAG, and the embattled Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, to recuse themselves from official duties, pending the outcome of the Special Visitation Panel set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the crisis rocking the institution.
