Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre and other major cities including the Federal Capital Territory Abuja are experiencing blackout as the national grid collapsed for the umpteenth time in 2022.
Some electricity distribution companies confirmed the development in separate messages on Monday.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) stated that the collapse had resulted in power outages in its area of operation, which covered about five states.
AEDC in a tweet via its official Twitter handle, said: “Please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas.
Similarly, Ikeja Electric said the national grid collapsed at 10:50am on Monday. “This has affected the Transmission Stations within our network and resulted in the loss of power supply to our customers,” a notice by the company partly read.
Also, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed the grid collapsed in a statement on Monday.
The company stated: “We regret to inform you of a system collapse on the National Grid at precisely 10:52 am. Presently all our injection substations are out of supply.
“We are working with our TCN partners to restore supply as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.”
The Benin Electricity Distribution Company announced that the national grid collapsed at 10:51am, causing disruption to power supply in the coverage areas including Delta, Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo.
Other companies – Enugu and Kaduna Electricity Distribution companies also confirmed the grid collapsed caused power outages in their coverage area.
According to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc, the system collapse caused outage in the entire South-East states of Anambra, Enugu, Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi.
Kaduna Electric confirmed the collapse of the grid on Monday, affected power supply in its franchise states.
The power companies apologised to their customers over the development and assured them that power will return once the grid is restored.
