A former Executive Director of a bank and president of Mbaise People’s Congress, Ano Anyanwu on Sunday, August 13 escaped being killed by thugs allegedly hired by an aspirant to the kingship of his Amaohuru Nguru commuity traditional institution.
Anyanwu is currently in the hospital where doctors are battling to save his battered body.
He has been in the East in the past one week, partly for the peaceful election of his community’s traditional ruler and for the MPC Annual Colloquium which holds on Monday at Chris VI hotel and Resort at Eke Ahiara Junction in Mbaise.
Many dignitaries are expected at the Colloquium.
No arrests have been made over the attempt on his life.
His car was reportedly burnt and phones damaged.
Meanwhile, feelers thos morning from organisers of the Colloquium said all is set for the event which attracts personalities from far and wide to Mbaise.
MPC Director of Publicity, Chuks Enwerem said Anyanwu had assured he will still attend the event despite what happened.
Enwerem said Anyanwu told him he could not afford to skip the event not withstanding what had happened and that he was in talks with his doctor.
