President Muhammadu Buhari has received 350 security vehicles and several vests donated by CACOVID, as part of private sector support for the government.

The items were donated by the Coalition of Private Sector Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) – a group of eminent Nigerian industrialists, including Aliko Dangote and Herbert Wigwe, who had also pooled N40 billion to combat COVID-19 in the country.

President Buhari, who applauded the donations, said the support his government had received from the private sector in addressing social ills was enough to make him the ”envy of many presidents of the world.”

The security vehicles and vests, valued at over N12 billion, were commissioned and handed over to the military and Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking, while handing over the items, on Wednesday, Africa’s richest man and Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who initiated the Coalition, explained that the Coalition was winding down with the latest donation.

He listed other business leaders brought together under CACOVID as Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, Tony Elumelu, Jim Ovia, Segun Agbaje, Abdulsamad Rabiu, Femi Otedola, Adesola Adedotun, Karl Toriola, Haresh Aswani, Raj Gupta, and John Coumantaros, all of who contributed several billions of naira each and supported the CACOVID effort with advocacy. He said that over 100 organisations and private individuals contributed to CACOVID.
