Buhari, Osinbajo sworn-in for second term

President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday took oath of office as they begin the journey for the second term in office.

 

Osinbajo, supported by the wife, Dolapo was the first to be sworn-in followed by Buhari whose wife, Aisha was beside him as he pledged to “be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

 

QActing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mohammed Tanko administered the oath of office on both the president and his deputy in the presence of dignitaries such as the senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the All Progressive Congress (APC) national leader, Bola Tinubu and the former interim chairman of the APC, Bisi Akande, former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, richest man in Africa, Aliko Dangote, chairman of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia, billionaire oil businessman, Femi Otedola and other promonient Nigerians.

 

The APC had earlier announced that the inauguration would be low-key.

 

It started very early in the morning with dignitaries taking positions by 7 am till 9 am when the President arrived. The Vice President had earlier arrived the Eagle Square venue of the swearing-in ceremony with the wife.

The venue was spectacularly decorated and the military and police carried out their parade functions and the usual 21 gun salute before Buhari inspected a guard of honour on his behalf that saw him driving round the venue to acknowledge cheers from guests.

 

But contrary to expectations, Buhari did not deliver any inauguration speech even though he pledged to continue to improve on the economy of the country in his second term and to sustain the war against corruption.
