President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with some leaders from the South East, including the governors of Abia (Okezie Ikpeazu), Ebonyi (Dave Umahi), Enugu (Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi) and the deputy governors of Imo (Eze Madumere) and Anambra (Nkem Okeke) states.
Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, and the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo were also at the meeting which held at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Following the launch of Operation Python Dance II by the army recently, there was tense security situation in the South East, with the latest being a failed immunization attempt organized by the military in the area.
Soldiers had clashed with members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Abia State in the early days of Operation Python Dance 11, causing the governors to meet and seek the outlaw of IPOB.
There were reports of soldiers raiding the residence of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, sending him into hiding till date. IPOB members insist Kanu is the custody of the military, but the latter had denied it.
IPOB has accordingly bee proscribed by a federal high court in Abuja.
Although other matters would definitely come up at the meeting, it is expected that the issue of Biafra would constitute part of the agenda for discussion.
