The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) has described the recall of the six judges acquitted of corruption charges by the National Judicial Council (NJC) as regrettable, saying it is not late to rescind the decision.
The group said on Wednesday, June 7 in Abuja in a statement signed by its Acting Chairman, Austin Braimoh and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke that the advice followed reports that the judges have not only been recalled but that they have started resuming duties.
“A credible judiciary is critical in winning the fight against corruption. The recall of the suspended judges is an affront on the moral sanctity of the judiciary,’’ the group said.
The statement averred that having the same judges sitting and adjudicating on matters of fairness, equality and morality was a dent to the credibility and perception of the judiciary by the Nigerians.
“The Judiciary is the guardian of our collective morality as a society which implies that it must not be found wanting when it comes to sensitive matters of rectitude.
“The courts are the last hope of the common man. They must not create doubts to the hallowed role they play in the society,” the statement said.
BMSG observed that the present administration’s war against corruption cannot be won if the three arms of government, especially the judiciary, are not working in synergy.
“The three arms of government must come together with a common mindset and consensus to revive Nigeria’s moral system,’’ the statement said.
The group called on the Federal Government to embark on rigorous training and improved funding of its prosecution teams and agencies so as to enhance the chances of winning the war against corruption.
