The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) has described as “uncharitable and baseless” the allegations by a former House of Representatives Member, Junaidu Mohammed, that President Muhammadu Buhari had exploited religion in 2015 to gain political advantage and power.

The group was reacting to Mohammed’s latest criticism of President Buhari.
The chairman of BMSG, Muhammad Labbo, said the allegations are totally false and misleading, because they didn’t reflect the realities of the political career of Buhari in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015.

Labbo said:, ‘if Buhari was a religious bigot, he wouldn’t have repeatedly chosen Christians as his running mates and resisted the idea of a Muslim/Muslim ticket.”

Labbo told Mohammed that Buhari chose Professor Yemi Osinbajo as his Vice President and appointed another Pastor, David Lawal, as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, adding that “these facts contradict Junaidu’s claims which portrayed President Buhari as a religious bigot.”

He advised Mohammed to respect facts and stop spreading falsehood to discredit and undermine the President, adding that as a respected medical doctor and pubic figure, he should be a role model for honour and truthfulness.

Regardless, the BMSG has praised the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Leader, Chief Bola Tinubu for his commitment to the change agenda of the party.

Labbo said Tinubu’s reassurances that he won’t quit the party was good news for the party, adding that the Jagaba was one of the brains that galvanized Nigerians for change and therefore his services are always invaluable.

Iin a statement signed by Labbo, Chairman and Cassidy Madueke, Secretary the group noted that the Federal Government in a deliberate bid to stimulate the nation’s economy and cushion the effects of the recession, paid contractors part of the debts accumulated since 2013.

The BMSG hailed the administration for channeling over N800 billion into capital expenditure with over N500billion to the construction sub sector, which has enabled construction companies to mobilise to abandoned sites, recall laid-off workers and recruit new ones.

The BMSG appreciated the efforts of the President Buhari administration to complete several roads across the country abandoned by the previous administrations.
“This will further enhance productivity and ease movement of goods and services across business and trading arteries of the country.”

The group while noting that job losses in the manufacturing sector is a reflection of the current economic challenges acknowledged the Federal Government’s efforts in addressing them.

It revealed that a package of measures have been included in the 2017 Fiscal Roadmap and Budget which would include tax relief and other incentives to stimulate the economy.
