An overhaul of the nation’s security apparatus could be underway as President Muhammadu Buhari, at the national Security Council meeting held at the State House on Tuesday, expressed concerns over the spike in armed violence in the country.
At the meeting which had in attendance Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, service chiefs, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SFG), Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari among others, President Buhari hinted he would reassess the nation’s security organs in view of the worsening security situation.
The National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), who disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the Tuesday meeting, said the president was dissatisfied with the efforts of the Service Chief, insisting the are not good enough.
The President, according to the NSA, in the meantime, charged the service chiefs to device adequate strategies to stem the wanton killings and destruction of properties across the country.
