Commuters Stranded As Commercial Vehicle Operators Reject Old Naira Notes

Many commuters were left stranded across Lagos State on Wednesday as commercial vehicle operators rejected old naira notes, following the pronouncement yesterday by the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godmin Emefiele that old Naira Notes of N200, N500 and N1000 have ceased to be legal tenders in Nigeria since the February 10, 2023 deadline.

Despite a Supreme Court ruling restraining the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from implementing the February 10, 2023 deadline for swapping of old Naira notes for the newly redesigned Naira notes,  commercial banks started rejecting the old Naira notes from depositors as of Monday, citing a circular by the CBN.
