In line with the directive given by the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, that contractors mobilized and working at different road sites return to work or face revocation of their contracts, most of the contractors have complied.
Governor Uzodinma had on Friday, February 7 warned the contractors who abandoned their sites to return to site , or have their contracts revoked.
At most of the sites visited by newsmen, on Tuesday, it was observed that contractors have returned fully to site and commenced work to meet up with their respective deadlines.
At the Imo State University (IMSU) junction-Bishop’s Court road being handled by Coduc Construction Company, it was discovered that the drainage has been completed and Asphalt on-going.
At Control Post-Umuguma dual carriage way and Assumpta roundabout to Port Harcourt Road (Ibari Ogwa dual carriage way) contracted to Zerock, it was discovered that the contractors have returned fully with their trucks, earth-equipment and drainage is being worked on according to specification.
Other sites visited include: Owerri-Okigwe road, especially the Ekemele area of the road where work has commenced in earnest, Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze road, Egbeada-Onitsha road, Concord Boulevard and Owerri-Orlu road, all have the presence of contractors and workers on site and work going on.
One of the Federal roads, Egbu/Emekuku/Mbaise/Obowo road awarded to CCECC, a Chinese company, work was also on-going and the site Engineer, Godwin Gideon assured that the project will be completed on record time.
It will be recalled that on assumption of office, Governor Uzodinma assured Imo people that he will continue from where his predecessor stopped and improve on what he met on ground as a strong believer that government is a continuum.
In keeping to that promise, he had a meeting with contractors handling road projects in the state and re-assured them of his commitment to that pledge.
Surprisingly, some of them left their sites without cogent reasons causing Governor to order the contractors to site within 72 hours or risk losing their contracts, according to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku.
