A Magistrate court in Yaba, Lagos State, has remanded Chidinma Ojukwu, a 300 level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos and one Adedapo Quadri in prison custody for 30 days over alleged murder of Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga.

The Magistrate Mrs. Adeola Adedayo remanded Ojukwu, 21 and Quadri, 40 for 30 days in the first instant, pending the legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The duo were brought before the court on Monday alongside Chidinma’s father, Onoh Ojukwu, 57; Babalola Disu, 42; Jessica Egbochi, 28; Abayomi Olutayo, 23; and Ifeoluwa Olowu, 23.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr Ojukwu and  Disu, 42, are to face trial for obstructing the police from performing their duties and failing to report a crime to the police.

The three other defendants, Egbochi, Olutayo and Olowu are to face trial for dishonestly receiving stolen items. The accused  all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Cyril Ejiofor, from the State Criminal Investigative and Intelligence Department, Panti, had told the court that Ojukwu and Quadri conspired to kill Ataga and stole his phones, laptop and cash valued at N3.8m.

Ejiofor said the duo committed the offences on June 18 and 23, at Computer village, Ikeja and Alagomeji, Yaba.

He alleged that Mr Ojukwu had refused the police from arresting his daughter, Chidinma, when the law caught up with her.

Mr Ejiofor added that the second defendant, Mr Disu, had also failed to report the death of Mr Ataga to the police.

“The other three defendants were also alleged to have dishonestly received a MacBook valued at N2.5 million and an iPhone 7 worth N150,000 belonging to the deceased,” he said.

Ejiofor said the offences contravened Sections 97, 117, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Adedayo however adjourned the case till September 5 for mention.
