An Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, Friday sentenced three persons to death by hanging for killing Olufunke Olakunrin, the daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

The three persons found guilty of the heinous act by the trial judge, Justice William Olamide are Lawal Mazaje, 40, Adamu Adamu, 50 and Mohammed Usman, 26.

The judge however discharged and acquitted one of the accused persons, Auwal Abubakar.

Counsel to the three accused said he would study the judgment to see if an appeal could be filed. But the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Charles Titiloye, commended the judgment.

Olufunke was shot dead on July 12 2019 while traveling between Kajola and Ore, along the Ondo/Ore Highway.

In April 2020, the Ondo State Government had arraigned them at a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure.

The then Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said the accused persons were arrested after the police physical and forensic evidence linking them to the crime.

According to Mba, an Identification Parade conducted by the police on April 8 in Lagos led to the physical identification of three of the accused persons by a victim who survived an earlier crime.
