A deputy commissioner of police (DCP), known as Usman Umar Belel was killed on Monday, aftermath of the clash between members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) called Shiites and the police in Abuja.
It is not known whether the reported death recorded in the clash was that of the police officer alone, but there are indications that the number of deceased casualties in the clash could be as many as eight.
Abuja residents reported of blood stains everywhere, and feared that many would have been killed.
It was not a peaceful protest after all as the live of Bebel who is in charge of Operation in the FCT Police Command, and an indigene of Adamawa State was mowed down.
The group which also set ablaze the office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Abuja, opposite the federal secretariat, confronted the police fire for fire, and the clash left the Federal Capital Territory drenching in blood and the residents scampering to safety where ever they could find save haven.
Recently, the group protesting the detention of their leader, El-ZakyZaky, confronted the police in aviolent attack that also saw to the death of some policemen and the wounding of others.
Although many of the members are currently facing trial over their recent violent approach, many of them insist they will continue to protest the detention of their leader and other members even if it will take the lives of all of them.
Last weekend, they were in Lagos and also protested, but President Muhammau Buhari insists that no amount of [protest will make him direct he release of El-Zaky Zaky as his matter in court borders on homicide and only the court can set him and other accused persons free.
During the Monday police and members of the IMN clash again in Abuja. a Channels Television reporter was also hit by a stray bullet, according to the the station.
The Shiites reportedly set a sub-station of the NEMA at the federal secretariat, Abuja, on fire, after the police disrupted their protest.
Property worth over N200 million was said to have been lost in the clash with two vehicles of the agency also set on fire.
The protest which began from NITEL junction at Wuse 2 was disrupted by armed policemen who cordoned the road leading to the National Assembly and three arms way.
