In a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Peter Afunanya, on Saturday, the secret police said: “The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons.”
The DSS warned: “The public, particularly the Media, is enjoined to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning this.”
The DSS had accused Emefiele of being involved in fraudulent activities and terrorism financing.
In February, the secret police had made several failed attempts to arrest Emefiele for interrogation, as it said, preliminary investigations allegedly “revealed various acts of terrorism financing, fraudulent activities and involvement in economic crimes of national security dimension perpetrated” by the suspended Governor of CBN.
The embattled expelled CBN boss had sought and obtained an order of the Federal High Court, Abuja, restraining the DSS from arresting, detaining or questioning him.
