The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, and former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel have called on the Muslim Ummah to sustain the virtues of endurance, discipline, and love imbibed during the holy month of Ramadan.

They made the call in their Eid el-Fitr message to the Muslim Ummah on Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 24 respectively.

Ekweremadu said: “I congratulate the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of the Ramadan Fast. It is also my hope that the virtues imbibed in the holy month are sustained beyond the Ramadan and brought to bear in our personal lives and efforts at nation building.

“Fasting in itself is a lesson in endurance, discipline, holiness, and religious adherence. We must all inculcate these virtues in the management of our country, engagement by interest groups, daily endeavours as individuals.

“With endurance, we will overcome the present recession; with discipline, we will defeat corruption; and with religious adherence, we will entrench love, justice, and equity, which are the hallmarks of major religions in the country”.

He wished the Muslim faithful and the nation a merry Eid el-Fitri.

The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has called on all Muslims to keep the lessons of the Holy Month of Ramadan to heart even as the fasting period has come to a close.

In his Sallah message to the people of Kogi State, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Petra Akinti Onyegbule, the Governor said the virtues of Islam must continue to guide Muslims in all their dealings with each other and those of other faiths.

He thanked everyone who said a prayer for the state and the nation in general, saying they would reap the full benefits of their belief in God. The Governor also appreciated those who prayed for the well-being of political and religious leaders, especially for President Muhammadu Buhari, as he recuperates in a London hospital.

Bello said: “The virtues of Islam are grounded in love for our fellow man and living in peace with all our neighbours. Allah (SAW) in His infinite wisdom created us differently and knows best why. The lessons of peaceful coexistence,  gratitude and benevolence, which we have been taught in the Month of Ramadan, must remain with us all through our lives.

“I felicitate with everyone for seeing the end of this edifying period and say Ramadan Kareem to you all. May the blessings of the Month be yours now and forever.”
