No fewer than eight persons were killed following a gas plant explosion that occurred in the Baruwa area in Ipaja, Lagos on Thursday morning.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed in a statement that eight fatalities were recorded in the incident, which he said occurred around 6:00 am.
An initial tweet by the emergency response agency said that 25 houses, mostly bungalows, 16 lock-up shops and a Primary School were also affected by the fire.
Channels Television quoted an unnamed official of the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the scene to have said a generator triggered the fire.
